The Spanish Chair 3237, designed by Børge Mogensen and produced by Fredericia Furniture, is one of the most influential designs in the history of Danish furniture design. With its powerful presence, honest construction, and uncompromising choice of materials, this chair has become a globally recognized design icon.

The chair was first presented in 1950 at the Cabinetmakers' Guild exhibition as part of Mogensen's legendary Hunting Lodge collection. In this design, he first experimented with the combination of a solid wood frame and stretched core leather, inspired by traditional Spanish Moorish chairs. By combining these influences with Danish functionalism, Mogensen redefined the proportions and created a chair that is both robust and refined.

The dining room version of the Spanish Chair has slightly taller proportions than the lounge version, ensuring a comfortable and supportive seating position at the dining table. The chair is available with or without armrests: without armrests, it has an open and airy feel, while the version with armrests offers a more secluded and intimate seating experience.

The solid wood frame is combined with a seat and backrest made of heavy, vegetable-tanned heart leather, tensioned with visible brass buckles. This construction fully showcases the craftsmanship and gives the chair its characteristic, almost architectural appearance. The leather and wood develop a rich patina over the years, making each chair more personal and beautiful with age.

The Spanish Chair 3237 is crafted from the finest materials: from quartered oak to traditionally tanned leather from Northern Sweden. The seat and backrest are interchangeable, and the buckles can be tightened as the leather matures. This chair is designed to last for generations – functionally, aesthetically, and emotionally. Care:

Oiled wood: Clean with a mild soapy solution, then re-oil

Lacquered wood: Clean with a mild soapy solution, then wipe dry

Soaped/untreated wood: Wipe with a slightly damp cloth, always along the grain

Leather: Wipe with a dry cloth or slightly damp cloth (demineralized water recommended), then wipe dry

Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight
