The 60 Loimu stool is Artek's second special 2023 edition celebrating the 90th anniversary of the 1933 design.
The Kontrasti chair emphasized the L-leg structure, while the Loimu chair focuses on the material, namely the Finnish birch wood.
The Loimu stool is made of a rare birch variety characterized by a flame-like pattern. In addition, the pattern only becomes fully visible when the wood is treated - the untreated "flame birch" only shows a light version of the grain pattern.
That is why a corresponding oil set is included with every stool!
The wood type flame birch is exceptionally rare and that is why this special jubilee stool 60 is only available in a limited edition.

About the designer:
Alvar Aalto (1898-1976) is probably the most famous Finnish architect and designer in the world. In 1921, Alvar Aalto graduated in architecture from the Helsinki Institute of Technology and began his career as an architect. One of the most important works he was awarded was the planning of the tuberculosis sanatorium in Paimio, Finland. This project also marked the beginning of Aalto's career as a furniture designer - in fact, this was the first building planned by Aalto to be completely furnished with furniture designed by Aalto himself - including the lighting. Other important projects Alvar Aalto completed are the Municipal Library of Viipuri, Villa Mairea, La Maison Carré and the Finnish pavilions for the 1937 Paris and 1939 World's Fairs in New York.
