The GUBI Lotus Table Lamp is a sculptural lighting piece that unites the age-old tradition of Murano glassblowing with the experimental spirit of 1960s Italian design. Designed by Carlo Nason in 1969, the lamp was originally released under the name LT305. GUBI is reissuing this distinctive design while remaining faithful to Nason’s original vision.

The name Lotus alludes to the lamp’s characteristic structure. Four individually mouth-blown glass shades nestle together like petals, forming an organic, almost flower-like silhouette. When illuminated, the layered glass softly diffuses light throughout the room, giving the Lotus a warm, poetic glow.

Mouth-blown *pulegoso* glass is used for the shades. The subtle texture of this unique glass adds depth to the surface, causing light to refract and diffuse in varied ways as it passes through the four layers.

A carefully engineered, virtually invisible steel structure holds the individual glass elements together while protecting the light source. For this reissue, GUBI has kept the original design as intact as possible, making only minor adjustments to the internal structure to further enhance the lamp's stability.

The original LT305 was in production for only a few years, making it a sought-after collector's item. With a generous diameter of 47 cm and a height of 42 cm, the new Lotus makes a bold statement. It is a table lamp that functions equally well as an atmospheric light source and a sculptural design object.

About Carlo Nason

Carlo Nason (1935–2026) was a renowned Italian designer in the fields of lighting and glass. Born into a family of Murano glassblowers, he was introduced to artisanal techniques at an early age in his family's glass workshop.

In his work, Nason combined this centuries-old tradition with the innovative ideas of post-war Italian design. Influences from both the Space Age and Art Deco are evident in his lamps, sculptures, and vases. His work is included in the collections of institutions such as the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Corning Museum of Glass.

Mouth-blown Murano glass

The distinctive character of the Lotus is defined by its four individually mouth-blown glass elements. Thanks to this artisanal production method, the glass forms not merely the lamp's shade but an essential part of the design itself. The various layers create a three-dimensional composition that possesses a sculptural quality whether the light is on or off.
