The Numbra Pendant TY1 by &Tradition, designed by Japanese designer Teruhiro Yanagihara, is a sophisticated pendant lamp where lines, light, and shadow take center stage. With its slender, almost architectural silhouette, Numbra not only brings functional light into a space but also creates rhythm, atmosphere, and a subtle graphic element.

The design stems from Yanagihara’s fascination with the way linear structures shape our environment. The elongated shape of 122 cm appears understated yet simultaneously possesses a strong spatial presence. Even when the lamp is not lit, Numbra remains an integral part of your interior as a minimalist object.

The Numbra Pendant is crafted from FSC®-certified solid oak, combined with tumbled cast aluminum and a matte acrylic diffuser. The natural warmth of the oak wood forms a beautiful contrast with the more industrial aluminum. The result is a balanced combination of Japanese-inspired simplicity and Scandinavian material sensitivity. What makes Numbra special is the freedom of installation. The lamp can be hung both horizontally and vertically and works beautifully as an individual lighting object, but can also be combined with multiple units to create a larger lighting composition. Above a dining table or kitchen island, the horizontal position creates a calm interplay of lines, while a vertical placement—for example in a high-ceilinged room—creates a strong architectural accent.

The integrated, replaceable LED module provides warm light of 2400K with a high color rendering index of CRI >90. With a suitable external dimmer, the light intensity can be smoothly adjusted from 100% to 10%, allowing the atmosphere to be easily adapted to the time of day.

Sustainability is also part of the design: Numbra is designed for disassembly, making it easier to repair, replace, pass on, and ultimately recycle parts responsibly.
