The Barley rug by Layered demonstrates how natural materials and traditional craftsmanship can take on a surprisingly modern look. The collection reinterprets the often robust character of jute and translates this into a softer, richer, and more refined rug for contemporary interiors.
The name Barley refers to barley and, consequently, to the natural, golden nuances of the jute threads. The rug is entirely hand-woven using the traditional Punja technique. In this process, experienced artisans use a heavy, comb-shaped tool to weave the yarns very close together. Combined with a strong warp of 100% cotton, a distinctive structure is created that gives the rug its architectural form and durable quality.
The unique material blend of 70% jute and 30% wool creates an attractive contrast. Jute gives the surface weight, structure, and a natural character, while wool adds softness and warmth. The result is a rich, multidimensional rug that adds both visual and tactile character to the space. With a generous thickness of 14 mm, Barley has more volume than a traditional flat-woven rug. It brings tranquility and natural warmth to an interior while simultaneously forming a powerful base under a sofa, dining table, or bed. A timeless rug for those who love natural materials, pronounced textures, and authentic craftsmanship.

How to choose the right size rug?
Living Room: Preferably place at least the front legs of the sofa and armchairs on the rug and let the rug extend approximately 20–30 cm beyond the furniture.
Dining Room: Choose a size where even extended dining chairs remain fully on the rug. Allow for about 60 cm extra around the dining table for this.
Bedroom: Let the rug extend generously under the bed. Approximately 60–90 cm on both sides creates a beautifully balanced whole.
Please note,
Jute and wool are natural materials, meaning subtle differences in color and texture are part of the rug's character. Colors may also appear different depending on daylight, artificial light, and the surrounding colors in the interior.
