About Mario Bellini:
Born in Italy in 1935, Mario Bellini is a visionary designer and architect who played a central role in shaping Italian design through the latter part of the 20th century. He graduated in architecture from the Polytechnic University of Milan in 1959 and founded his own studio in 1962, embarking on a career defined by a multidisciplinary, conceptual approach. His deep understanding of proportion and shape has been central to his success, allowing him to seamlessly merge form and function across furniture, industrial design, and architecture. His original and influential creations have earned him numerous accolades, including eight Golden Compass awards.
From 1985 to 1991, he served as editor of Domus magazine and in recognition of his enduring legacy, the Milan Triennale awarded him the Gold Medal for Lifetime Achievement in 2015 and dedicated a retrospective exhibition to his work in 2017. Together with HAY, he has reissued the Amanta Sofa, originally designed in 1966. The design is part of the permanent collection at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York.
