Designed by Finn Juhl
The FJ Essence sugar bowl by Architectmade is a refined and elegant piece of tableware, designed by the legendary Danish architect and designer Finn Juhl. The white porcelain, finished with a hand-glazed layer, exudes timeless simplicity and Scandinavian finesse. The soft curves and balanced proportions give this small bowl a sculptural look.
Finn Juhl designed the complete FJ Essence tea set back in 1952, but it never went into production at the time due to the technical complexity of the curved shapes. Sixty years later, the original drawings were rediscovered by Architectmade, who brought the design to life – exactly as Juhl had intended.

About the designer
Finn Juhl (1912–1989) was a leading figure in Danish modernism. After graduating from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, he worked at the renowned architectural firm of Vilhelm Lauritzen. In 1945, he opened his own studio in Copenhagen. His work is praised for its organic formal language, balance and human-centred approach. Juhl was inspired by sculpture and craftsmanship, and this is clearly reflected in this sugar bowl: subtle, functional and with an unmistakable artistic signature.
The FJ Essence sugar bowl forms an elegant whole with the teapot and teacup – a tribute to craftsmanship and Danish design from the mid-20th century.
