Vitra's desk called Eames Desk Unit (EDU) consists of a veneered plywood top and a black, powder-coated steel frame that stands out for its slim cross structures. The brightly colored panels give the desk a playful edge and a Mondrian-like look, and these partially enclose the two storage compartments. The metal legs can be individually adjusted to uneven floors.

Charles and Ray Eames designed the Eames Storage Unit (ESU) and Eames Desk Unit (EDU) in 1949. The furniture's innovative, lightweight structure was based on the principles of industrial production, just like the iconic Eames House.

Honoring the spirit of the 1940s and 1950s, the contemporary color palette of EDU and ESU was developed in collaboration with Eames Office and Dutch designer Hella Jongerius.

About the designers duo:

Ray and Charles Eames were an American designer couple whose name is known to anyone with an interest in modern design. Charles Eames was born in 1907 in St. Louis, Missouri. He studied architecture at the University of Washington and, at the invitation of the Finnish architect Eliel Saarinen, continued his studies at the Cranbrook Academy of Arts, Michigan in 1940.

There he met Eero Saarinen, with whom he entered a competition called " Organic Design in Home Decor" organized by MoMA in New York. Eames and Saarinen won the competition using a plywood molding technique originally developed by Alvar Aalto. In Cranbrook, Charles Eames also met her future wife Ray, and the couple married in 1941.
