Artek Riihitie planter.

The Artek's Riihitie plant pot is a design by Aino Aalto from 1937, and first presented on the Artek stand at the 1937 World's Fair in Paris.

Aino initially made the pots for his home in Helsinki, which later became part of the collection that the Aaltos presented at the Paris World Exhibition in 1937. Now 80 years later, Artek launched the ceramic planters, named after the address of their original setting , in honor of the centenary of Finland's independence.

The Riihitie plant pots are all handmade and the blue and white color is inspired by the ceramic tiles of the Muuratsalo Experimental House, also known as the family's summer residence. The organic, undulating design of the pots accentuates the connection the Aalto had with nature.

About the designer:

Aino Aalto (1894-1949) was a well-known Finnish architect and designer. She studied architecture at the Technical University of Helsinki, just like her husband, the famous Alvar Aalto. In 1923 she joined Gunnar A. Wahlroos' office, Jyväskylä, and the following year she transferred to Alvar Aalto's office.
