The HAY Rey Dining Chair is a timeless design classic where Swiss craftsmanship and contemporary Scandinavian design come together. Originally designed by Bruno Rey in 1971 and re-released by HAY in collaboration with Dietiker, the chair retains its iconic character while being fully adapted to the demands of modern interiors.
The design is characterized by soft, rounded shapes, flowing lines, and a refined silhouette that fits effortlessly into living rooms as well as dining rooms, restaurants, offices, and project interiors. The distinctive rounded backrest offers comfortable support, while subtle details and balanced proportions give the chair a friendly and inviting appearance.
What makes the Rey special is the revolutionary screwless wood-metal joint that Bruno Rey developed specifically for Dietiker. This innovative construction, combined with the cast aluminum connections and solid beech wood, ensures exceptional strength, durability, and a sleek finished design without visible screws. It is precisely this technical innovation that has made the Rey one of the most successful Swiss chair designs ever.
The chair is crafted from high-quality solid beech wood and is available in a carefully curated selection of original and contemporary colors. Additionally, various versions are available with an upholstered seat for extra comfort, allowing the Rey to adapt effortlessly to diverse residential and project environments.
Thanks to its stackable design, robust construction, and timeless character, the HAY Rey Dining Chair is a sustainable investment that elegantly combines functionality and design.

About the designer – Bruno Rey
Swiss designer Bruno Rey (1933) is one of the most important furniture designers of the twentieth century. After training as a furniture maker, he studied at the Hochschule für Gestaltung in Zurich, where he was influenced by the renowned designer Willy Guhl. In 1968, he founded his own design studio and developed the revolutionary chair for Dietiker that would later become known worldwide as the Rey Chair.
With his patented screwless wood-metal connection, Bruno Rey wrote design history. His innovative construction combined aesthetics, durability, and industrial efficiency in a way that was unprecedented at the time. The Rey grew into the most successful Swiss chair of all time and is being produced again today by HAY in collaboration with Dietiker. In addition to the Rey Chair, the collection includes bar stools, stools, tables, and coffee tables, making the original design just as relevant today as it was over fifty years ago.
