The Vitra Guéridon dining table, designed by French architect and designer Jean Prouvé, is a characteristic example of his functional and structural approach to design. This version in oiled walnut combines a warm, natural tabletop with a powerful three-legged structure and subtle powder-coated steel details.

Prouvé originally designed the Guéridon in 1949 for the interior of a university in Paris. The table clearly demonstrates how, in Prouvé’s work, construction and form are inextricably linked. The round tabletop rests on three angled legs, which are connected beneath the surface by a sturdy steel structure.

It is precisely this visible structural logic that gives the Guéridon its distinctive appearance. The three legs create a powerful architectural silhouette, while the round walnut top adds warmth and refinement to the design. The result is a table that looks robust, elegant, and timeless all at once.

With a diameter of 105 or 90cm, the Guéridon is a relatively compact round dining table that looks stunning in a dining room, kitchen, or stylish commercial setting. Since its original design, the table has found its way into homes, restaurants, and public spaces around the world.

About Jean Prouvé

Jean Prouvé (1901–1984) was a French metalworker, engineer, architect, and self-taught designer. He played a pivotal role in the development of post-war European design and was renowned for his innovative approach to construction and industrial production.

Social equality and accessible, high-quality design were key principles in his work. His background in metalworking and engineering is clearly evident in his furniture, where structural elements are not concealed but rather form an essential part of the design.

Natural walnut wood

Walnut is a natural material. Variations in grain structure, color nuance, and figuring are inherent characteristics of the wood, giving each table its own unique character. The oiled finish accentuates the warm appearance of the walnut.
