Description

Guéridon Dining Table.

Design by Jean Prouve.

This solid oak ore walnut table called the Guéridon, was designed in the late 1940s by designer and engineer Jean Prouvé for the University of Paris, the table is a demonstration of clear structural basic principles. It is a variation on Prouvé's architectural design series, and is made in a natural material, which shows that modern tables do not necessarily have to be made of steel and glass.

Material: Tabletop natural oiled solid oak - smoked solid oiled oak - solid oiled American walnut
The same wood as table top - steel tube leg, deep black powder coating (smooth)
Dimensions: Ø 90 cm. x H 74 cm. - Ø 105 cm. x H 74 cm.

The designer:

Jean Prouvé completed his metalworker training before opening his own workshop in Nancy in 1924. In the following years he created numerous furniture designs and in 1947 Prouvé founded his own factory. Due to disagreements with the majority shareholders, he left the company in 1953. In the following decades, Prouvé worked as a consulting engineer on a number of important architectural projects in Paris.

In close collaboration with the Prouvé family, Vitra began republishing designs from this great French constructor in 2002.
