Artek's Riihitie planter is a 1937 design by Aino Aalto, first presented at the Artek booth at the 1937 World's Fair in Paris.
Aino initially created the pots for his home in Helsinki, and they later became part of the collection the Aaltos presented at the 1937 World's Fair in Paris. Now, 80 years later, Artek launched the ceramic planters, named after the address of their original setting, in honor of the centenary of Finland's independence.
The iconic Riihitie pots are taking on a new dimension with two entirely new colors, released as part of the Tones of Modernism Collection—a special collaboration with The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
The color palette of this exclusive edition is taken from Seeing Silence: The Paintings of Helene Schjerfbeck, an exhibition on view at The Met from December 5, 2025, to April 5, 2026.
The soft yellows and light pinks are a recurring theme in Schjerfbeck’s tranquil, layered paintings—colors that perfectly reflect her poetic minimalism and subtle Scandinavian sensibility.
The result is a set of planters that feels both modern and timeless: serene, sculptural objects that pay tribute to the artistic legacy of one of Finland’s most celebrated artists.
A true collector’s item for design enthusiasts—and a calm, elegant addition to any interior.
