Description

Artek 81C children's table.

The Artek 81C children's table by Alvar Aalto from 1933 has a simple, elementary structure and is ideal for the children's room, given its height of 60 cm.

The Artek children's table was designed by Alvar Aalto in 1933. The children's table is ideal for any activity, from playing to drawing or doing homework.

The table is a combination of solid birch with a top of birch veneer.

Artek tables are based on different combinations of Alvar Aalto's L-legs and table tops. Aalto first introduced the curved L-leg in 1933 and became a standard component in his furniture designs. The development of the L-leg was revolutionary because the problem of attaching legs directly to the table top was solved in a completely new way – the leg could be attached directly to the table top with screws and the result was a simple but very solid construction .

The A80 is based on the original L-leg system and has the recognizable simplicity that characterizes Alvar Aalto's designs.

The designer :

Alvar Aalto (1898-1976) is the most famous Finnish architect and designer in the world. In 1921, Alvar Aalto graduated in architecture from the Helsinki Institute of Technology and began his career as an architect. One of the most important works he was awarded was the planning of the tuberculosis sanatorium in Paimio, Finland.

This project also marked the beginning of Aalto's career as a furniture designer - in fact, this was the first building planned by Aalto to be completely furnished with furniture designed by Aalto himself - including the lighting. Other important projects completed by Alvar Aalto include the Municipal Library of Viipuri, Villa Mairea, La Maison Carré and the Finnish pavilions for the 1937 Paris and 1939 New York World's Fairs.
