Description

Vitra EM Table solid oak - 200 x 90 cm.

A particularly functional table that describes the table well, the table was designed by designer Jean Prouvé.

The Vitra's EM Table is a streamlined table designed by French engineer and designer Jean Prouvé for the modernist prefabricated residential project La Maison Tropicale in 1950.

When designing this table, functionality was the main focus of the designer. Jean Prouvé was a world-famous architect who designed many special objects without following a specific training in this direction.

It is not without reason that he received the Grand Prix in 1952 and was also the winner of a competition at the University of Nancy. At the age of 80 he also received the Erasmus Prize.

Characteristic of this designer is that he looked for contemporary solutions for contemporary problems and that he mainly thought in terms of possibilities and not impossibilities. His enormous mastery of the technique, including bending sheet metal, played a role in this. The chamfered legs of the EM Table Prouvé table are connected to each other via a crossbar.

Of course, steel and veneer wood were used in the manufacture of this table. The base has the color ecru. The table can be combined well with various chairs and is a real eye-catcher for any room.

Dimensions: The length is 200 cm, depth 90 cm and the height is 74 cm.

Table top material: 34 mm thick oiled oak wood
Frame material: Curved steel with a powder coated finish

About Jean Prouvé:

Jean Prouvé completed his training as a metal craftsman before opening his own workshop in Nancy in 1924. In the following years he created numerous furniture designs and in 1947 Prouvé founded his own factory. Due to disagreements with the majority shareholders, he left the company in 1953. In the following decades, Prouvé served as a consulting engineer on a number of important architectural projects in Paris.

He made his mark on architectural history again in 1971, when he was instrumental in selecting Renzo Piano and Richard Rogers' design for the Center Pompidou as chairman of the competition jury. Prouvé's work encompasses a wide variety of objects, from a letter opener to door and window fittings, from lighting and furniture to facade elements and prefabricated houses, from modular building systems to large exhibition structures - essentially almost anything suitable for industrial production methods.

In close collaboration with the Prouvé family, Vitra started publishing designs from this great French constructor in 2002.
