Description

Ottoman- Santos Palissander Black Leather

The iconic Eames Lounge Chair, designed by Charles and Ray Eames in 1956, is a modern take on the more traditional English club chair. The Eames duo wanted to create a spacious armchair that combines ergonomics with high-quality materials and craftsmanship. It took several years to develop a perfect lounge chair that would differ from the then popular club chair and it had to be lighter, more elegant and offer unsurpassed comfort. That worked out great! Of course, this one couldn't do without a footstool.

The Eameses designed the Lounge Ottoman as a set for their Lounge Chair, and the shape and materials of the ottoman follow the elegant look of the iconic chair. Lounge Ottoman consists of a four-legged metal base, made of pressed plywood with a veneer surface and a seat covered with leather.

The Vitra's Lounge Chair and Ottoman are the timeless design classics of the 20th century.

About the designers:

Ray and Charles Eames were an American designer couple whose name is known to anyone with an interest in modern design. Charles Eames was born in 1907 in St. Louis, Missouri. He studied architecture at the University of Washington and, at the invitation of Finnish architect Eliel Saarinen, continued his studies at the Cranbrook Academy of Arts, Michigan in 1940.

There he met Eero Saarinen, with whom he participated in a competition called "Organic Design in Home Furnishing" organized by the MoMA in New York. Eames and Saarinen won the competition using a plywood molding technique originally developed by Alvar Aalto Charles Eames also met her future wife Ray in Cranbrook, and the couple married in 1941.
