Gubi Bestlite BL3 Floor Lamp - Dia 21 cm.

Inspired by the Bauhaus period and made of Steel or brass and aluminum.

The Bestlite collection includes table lamps, floor lamps, wall lamps and hangers in various sizes. The materials are chrome-plated steel handles and fittings and powder-coated aluminum shades. The base of the table lamps and floor lamps is made of powder-coated aluminum with an integrated steel counterweight.

All threads are lined with textile that matches the shade and base. The Bestlite collection is also available in brass where all steel parts have been replaced with solid brass. A small wrench is included to tighten the joint of the lamp arm if necessary.

Designed by Robert Dudley Best, the Bestlite BL3 floor lamp has been heavily influenced by the Bauhaus period and has been continuously produced since the 1930s. BL3 is a compact floor lamp and is adjustable in height. British Prime Minister Winston Churchill also fell for the Bestlite. Not only did he have these on his desk in Whitehall, but he also took the lamp with him on countless trips around the world. Loved by architects, designers and design enthusiasts for the past 80 years, Bestlite is today a truly global design icon.

About the designer:

Robert Dudley Best (1892–1984) was heir to the world's largest lighting factory, founded in Birmingham in 1840. Despite its proud history, Best believed that the lamp designs produced by the factory were outdated. In 1925, Best visited the international exhibition of modern design in Paris and, inspired by what he saw, began his studies of industrial design in Paris and Düsseldorf. During his studies, Best became good friends with Walter Gropius, the founder of the Bauhaus movement. At the time, he was inspired by the Bauhaus era and made the first sketches of what would become the iconic Bestlite design.
