The PH 1/1 Piano by Louis Poulsen, designed by Poul Henningsen, is a special table lamp where light, music, and Danish design come together. The original design dates back to 1931 and was produced for about ten years at the time. Now, this rare classic returns as a renewed special edition, available for a limited time only.

In addition to being an architect and designer, Poul Henningsen was also a passionate musician and composer. He originally designed the Piano Lamp to be placed on top of a piano, so that the keys and sheet music could be pleasantly illuminated while playing. That musical origin is immediately visible in the gracefully curved brass arm, whose spiral shape is reminiscent of a musical clef.

The lamp is built around Henningsen's famous three-shade system. Three mouth-blown and sandblasted glass shades diffuse the light in a soft and comfortable way. For this special edition, the top shade has been given a warm Dusty Terracotta tint, which pairs beautifully with the dark patinated brass.

The brass features a refined hairline structure and a treated patina. Unlike untreated brass, this finish will not change further over time. As a special detail, Poul Henningsen's gold-colored initials are engraved in the base.

Furthermore, the adjustable arm makes the PH 1/1 Piano surprisingly functional. Thanks to the swivel hinge, the lamp can be adjusted 45° backward and 25° forward. This allows the light to be directed precisely at piano keys, a book, a desk, or a creative activity.

A special collector's item in which an important piece of Louis Poulsen's design history is brought back to life.

About Poul Henningsen

The Danish designer, architect, writer, and cultural critic Poul Henningsen (1894–1967) is one of the most important figures in the history of Louis Poulsen. His research into light and glare resulted in the famous PH system with multiple hoods, designed to reflect light in a controlled manner and create soft, pleasant lighting.

In addition to his work as a designer, Henningsen was active as a musician and composer. The PH Piano is a fine example of how these different disciplines come together within a single design.

Patinated brass:

The brass of this version features a carefully treated, dark patina. This finish is intended to preserve its appearance and will not continue to patina in the same way as untreated brass.

Maintenance:

Clean the lamp with a soft, dry cloth. Any grease stains can be gently removed with a mild detergent and a soft cloth lightly dampened with lukewarm water.
