The Piirto Unikko rug by Marimekko offers a fresh, minimalist interpretation of Maija Isola's iconic floral motif. In this version, the entire flower is visible, only its outline – a subtle graphic approach that gives the famous Unikko pattern a calm and modern look.
The rug is tufted with high-quality 100% New Zealand wool, making it not only soft and comfortable but also durable and hard-wearing. The natural wool texture creates a warm atmosphere and a pleasant texture underfoot, while the neutral greige shade effortlessly complements a variety of interior styles – from Scandinavian minimalism to modern living spaces.
The Piirto Unikko rug is produced in collaboration with the renowned Dutch carpet manufacturer Brink & Campman, known for its high-quality craftsmanship and sustainable production methods.
The story behind Unikko:
The famous Unikko pattern originated in 1964 when Marimekko founder Armi Ratia decided to stop designing floral prints. Maija Isola, however, challenged this decision and created an entire collection of floral motifs in protest. One of these was Unikko – a design that eventually became one of the most recognizable and beloved patterns in the history of Scandinavian design.
