Description

Vitra Lightopia.

Lightopia, published by the Vitra Design Museum, is a three-part guide to the history and present of design lighting.

Artificial light has been one of the best mediums that have revolutionized our environment, and various luminaires are an inseparable part of our daily lives. Lightopia consists of three separate books in a slipcase: Volume 1 consists of essays on the cultural history of light, Volume 2 presents 100 key luminaires from the collection of the Vitra Design Museum from 1900 to the present day, and Volume 3 consists of interviews with lighting designers and artists discussing the meaning and possibilities of new lighting technologies.

The richly illustrated publication contains works by Olafur Eliasson, Gino Sarfatti, Ingo Maurer, mischer'traxler, Carlos Cruz-Diez, Wilhelm Wagenfeld, Richard Sapper, Achille Castiglioni, Ulrike Brandi, Pieke Bergmans and many others.
