The X-Line Chair by HAY is a lightweight and elegant chair that effortlessly balances functionality and refined design. The sleek, powder-coated steel frame is shaped like a geometric X – a subtle nod to industrial aesthetics and a construction that offers a surprising amount of stability.
Originally designed in 1977 by Danish architect Niels Jørgen Haugesen, the X-Line was produced for many years by Magnus Olesen. In 2025, HAY relaunched this design classic – to the delight of design enthusiasts worldwide.

Clean with a damp cloth or neutral detergent. Remove soap residue immediately with a dry cloth. Do not use abrasives. Stains on chrome surfaces can be carefully removed with white spirit.
About the designer
Niels Jørgen Haugesen (1936–2013)
After training as a cabinetmaker and architect, Haugesen worked for Arne Jacobsen, among others. In 1971, he started his own studio and became an influential figure in the Danish design world. In addition to his design work, he taught at the Danish Design School for many years. His X-Line design remains a benchmark in functional, minimalist furniture.
