Lukki Chair – Design classic by Ilmari Tapiovaara
Designed in 1951 by Finnish designer Ilmari Tapiovaara, the Lukki Chair is an elegant example of functional design with a playful character. Lukki means 'hay wagon' (or 'long-legged spider') in Finnish – a reference to the airy design with its slender steel legs.
Originally designed for student accommodation at the Helsinki University of Technology, the Lukki chair is known for its versatility, stackability and robust construction. The compact armrests make it possible to push the chair close to a table, making it ideal for both dining tables and reading corners.
