Artek Aalto Table 90D – Walnut

The Artek Aalto Table 90D, designed by Alvar Aalto, is a compact round table that centers on one of the most important innovations in the history of Finnish furniture design. With a diameter of 48 cm and a height of 44 cm, the 90D is perfect as a coffee table, side table, or as a small table next to an armchair.

The table is crafted from Finnish birch wood and features a warm Walnut finish in this version. The tabletop has a birch veneer surface, while the solid birch edge and legs are finished with a walnut-colored stain and lacquer. The dark wood tone gives the familiar Aalto design a warm and elegant look, without compromising its characteristic simplicity.

Central to the design are Aalto's famous L-legs. Alvar Aalto introduced this curved wooden leg in 1933 as a new way to attach a furniture leg directly to a tabletop. Instead of complex joints, the L-leg could simply be mounted under the tabletop using screws. The result was a construction that was both simple and exceptionally sturdy.

For Aalto, the development of the L-leg was of exceptional importance. He even considered this innovation one of his greatest achievements and described the L-leg as “the little sister of the architectonic column”. The principle grew into a fundamental building block within the Artek furniture collection and still forms the basis for countless tables, chairs, and stools.
