Design by Mathieu Mategot.

Finally an original hanging lamp that does not just float in space but can be seen in the garden, terrace or patio. The special Satellite hanging lamp comes in two sizes and was designed by Mathieu Matégot in 1953. The Satellite hanging lamp has character with its geometric lines and metal hood, together they form a true light sculpture. The name of the lamp was coined by Mathieu Matégot in response to the French space program that was underway just after the Second World War.

A truly timeless lighting solution, the Gubi relaunch is as distinctive and contemporary as the original, some 70 years after the lamp's original introduction.

The cap has a fascinating elliptical shape and is made of a sheet of perforated stainless steel that is effortlessly bent into the unique egg-shaped shape. An aluminum 'hat' is placed above the lampshade, which reflects the light downwards and creates a welcoming atmosphere in your outdoor space. The Satellite Outdoor Pendant Lamp is ideally placed in a covered patio, veranda or terrace, to enjoy those warm summer evenings even when the sun has already set.

The lamp is available in sizes M and L. Size M has a diffuser with a diameter of 22.5 centimeters. The width of the lampshade is 45 centimeters and the depth is 27 centimeters. The total height of the lamp is 31.5 centimeters. The largest variant, size L, has a diffuser with a diameter of 27.2 centimeters. The width of the lampshade is 57 centimeters and the depth is 36 centimeters. The total height of the lamp is 38.4 centimeters. The lamp is available in 2 colours.

About the designer:

Mathieu Matégot (1910 - 2001) was a versatile, independent and self-taught Hungarian designer, architect and artist who spent most of his life in his beloved Paris, where he first settled in 1931 after studying at the School of Budapest in Budapest. Art and architecture. In 1939, Matégot volunteered for the French army, but was held as a prisoner in Germany until his escape in 1944. This wartime captivity was an important time for Matégot, as it was here that he was able to acquaint himself with the innovative material and technique, Rigitulle - which would later become his hallmark.

Mathieu Matégot is best known for this pioneering material and technique, which he called Rigitulle, where metal tubes are combined with perforated metal plates. Like fabric, Rigitulle could be bent, folded and shaped to give the furniture he designed transparency, weightlessness and eternal modernity. Mathieu Matégot even patented this material and teqnique and set up his own production so that he could use it in his design. Like many of his colleagues, Matégot traveled the world in search of inspiration, techniques and upon his return transformed these impressions into his own unique designs and interpretations. Whether industrial processes or aesthetics, he always collected and interpreted.

In the 1950s - and a decade and a half - devoted to designing furniture and interior accessories, he created a wide range of distinctive designs that are today considered iconic and contemporary. To ensure the quality of the production of his own designs, Matégot set up two of his own workshops - Société Mategot, one in Paris with up to twenty employees and a second in Casablanca, Morocco. Both produced in limited numbers for up to 400 items and continued until the early 1960s, when Matégot abruptly ceased production and began his work on tapestry, which he would continue for the rest of his career.
