Design by Ray and Charles Eames for Vitra.
The design duo started applying their plywood molding techniques to furniture in 1943, after which manufacturer Vitra took this furniture into production. The design of the Eames Plastic Armchair RAR rocking chair is a very strong design, which immediately evokes the association with Vitra.
The abbreviation RAR stands for "rocking armchair rod base".
Vitra's Eames RAR rocking chair is a charming combination of a plastic seat, chrome-plated metal frame and wooden legs. The slim and lightweight rocking chair is very suitable for different decors and spaces.
Designed by Charles and Ray Eames, the plastic Eames chairs are real design icons of the 1950s. Their popularity lies in the timeless, ergonomic design and the different versions. The original model with a fiberglass seat was the first industrially produced plastic chair.
Over the years, Vitra has adapted the dimensions and geometry of the classic chairs to make them more comfortable for today's needs. The dimensions of the RAR rocking chairs have been updated in 2019: longer slides, higher seat and more upright seating area make the chairs more stable than before.

About the designers:
Ray and Charles Eames were an American designer couple whose name is known to anyone with an interest in modern design. Charles Eames was born in 1907 in St. Louis, Missouri. He studied architecture at the University of Washington and, at the invitation of the Finnish architect Eliel Saarinen, continued his studies at the Cranbrook Academy of Arts, Michigan in 1940.
There he met Eero Saarinen, with whom he entered a competition called " Organic Design in Home Decor" organized by MoMA in New York. Eames and Saarinen won the competition using a plywood molding technique originally developed by Alvar Aalto. In Cranbrook, Charles Eames also met her future wife Ray, and the couple married in 1941.
