Description

Vitra Aluminium Chair EA 108 black leather.

The aluminum chair is one of the greatest furniture designs of the twentieth century. Charles and Ray Eames originally designed it in 1958 for the private home of an art collector in Columbus, Indiana (USA).

Meanwhile, the aluminum chairs by Charles & Ray Eames have found their way all over the world as true classics of the 20. Century. The designer couple left the principle of the seat shell in the construction of the chair and stretched a fabric or leather track taut but firm but firm between two aluminum side panels. The EA 108 aluminum chair adapts to the body and offers high comfort even without extensive padding.

The EA 108 Aluminum Chair stands out for its approach to design and an elegant combination of materials. The covers are fixed in the aluminum profiles and simply stretched over the aluminum frame, transforming them from mere covers into a load-bearing part of the construction. The chair is available with a powder-coated black or chrome-plated frame of your choice.

Vitra has produced the Aluminum Group chairs in the same superior quality over a period of decades. Thanks to this experience, Vitra can offer a 30-year guarantee on all chair models in the Aluminum Group.

The designers:

Ray and Charles Eames were an American designer couple whose name is known to anyone with an interest in modern design. Charles Eames was born in 1907 in St. Louis, Missouri. He studied architecture at the University of Washington and, at the invitation of the Finnish architect Eliel Saarinen, continued his studies at the Cranbrook Academy of Arts, Michigan in 1940. There he met Eero Saarinen, with whom he entered a competition called " Organic Design in Home Decor" organized by the MoMA in New York. Eames and Saarinen won the competition using a plywood molding technique originally developed by Alvar Aalto. In Cranbrook, Charles Eames also met his future wife Ray, and the couple married in 1941.
